Revenge is Sweet is the tantalizing subject for The Hampshire Chronicle-sponsored writing competition.

The Winchester Writers' Conference invites budding authors to write a short story up to 1000 words on this subject.

The winner will spend the weekend at the conference in the company of professional novelists, playwrights, poets, commissioning editors, literary agents and book industry specialists.

Among the 65 speakers will be crime fiction supremo Peter James, internationally renowned poet, Fred D'Aguiar, Nuffield Theatre Director Patrick Sandford and Beverley Birch, Senior Commissioning Editor, Hodder's Children's Books.

Michael Morpurgo OBE will give the Plenary Address on Saturday morning 0900-1000 titled The Storymaker's Journey.

Dr Gary Farnell, Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Winchester chose this subject to challenge the creativity of writers who must submit their entries by June 15. Each story will receive an adjudication.

All entries must be in English, be original and unpublished work, written by one author and must not have won an award at any previous competition.

Entries may be typed double spaced or legibly written.

Entrants may submit up to five entries.

Copyright remains with the author.

Conference speakers may not enter the competition.

No responsibility can be taken by the Conference Director or the University of Winchester for entries mislaid. Competitors should retain a copy.

The winning entry will be published in the conference anthology, The Best of 2009.

Send your entry(ies) with a stamped self addressed envelope for the return of your manuscript(s) and the adjudication(s) to The Hampshire Chroniocle, Upper Brook Street, Winchester, Hampshire.
